Misty Naytowhow, Misty Rain Designs // sweet artists

I first met Misty this past summer. I was covering events for the 2011 Indian Residential School Gathering Healing Conference that was being held on our reserve and the youth had decided to put on a Fashion Show, featuring aboriginal artists and using our Youth as the models. Fun!

From Misty:

My name is Misty Rain Naytowhow. I am 25 years old and I’m from Sturgeon Lake First Nation. I’ve been designing for the public since summer of 2010. I’m self taught but I’ve had plenty of positive feedback from the people I had the pleasure of designing for.

I have always been creative and into fashion since I was a small child, whether it be designing pow-wow regalia for my siblings or putting works of art on paper. I’m a single mother of two so I create as much as I can juggling motherhood and being a busy designer.

My design esthetic is more modern day/edgy , ready to wear. I use material that will feel comfortable to the body such as cotton stretch but still look amazing. Since summer 2010 . I’ve done several fashion shows, a couple fashion workshops and plenty of photoshoots.

Misty’s work is affordable, with clean lines and a touch of drama. Her clothes fit a variety of body types and are cool, comfortable and look beautiful. Her new line is coming up and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with this season.

Working with Misty was a goal of mine. Her line of earrings and clothes together make a dynamic look- full of bold colours and texture. The main appeal for me, was showing her clothes in a more wear-friendly way than was previously shown. These are the kind of clothes that you throw on, throw your hair in a messy bun, put on your favorite skinnies and you are done. And you look fab.
