Gabrielle Laviolette, Blissful Hair & Makeup // sweet artists

Gabrielle and I first made contact when I sent a shout-out about Aboriginal hair and make-up artists for these personal shoots that I’m doing. I lucked out when Gabby replied, as her style and work is stellar.

That’s right. I said STELLAR.

She took these two pretty, athletic girls and made them into beautiful, sensual strong women, with a few hairstyles and a some makeup. The girls were entranced and amazed with the amount of make-up, the styling, the quick way they were transformed. They were also slightly scared, but I think that’s normal when you’ve never worn false eyelashes before.

Gabrielle’s Work Bio:
Owner / Hair stylist/ Make up artist
Gabrielle’s love of hair and make up has taken her all over Saskatchewan and Alberta in the past 8 years. She is a very creative, talented and personable artist. Her clients rave about her attention to detail and professionalism.

While working in Banff, she grew passionate for the bridal industry. Once Gabrielle returned to Saskatchewan, she became the founder of Blissful Hair and Make up. In the last three years, she has grown the business into a very successful on location beauty team for all special occasions.

When we went to Gabby’s house, as the studio is run out of her home but she can also travle to you, she welcomed us in with a warm smile. Her loot of goodies such as the make-up, hair products and such were already laid out. She went right to work.

Gabby’s studio was under construction (can’t wait to go back and see the finished look) so we sat around the kitchen table, talking hair, make-up and reserves. Gabby is from the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, so we talked about that (I have a cousin living out there currently) as well as what its like running a small business.

Jaydon and Danny poked and prodded and made faces at the various stages of the transformation – Jaydon cried a little with the falsie eyelashes, haha – but at the end, they were both beautiful and polished. Love Gabby’s work.

And what I loved most about this was that Gabby is truly easy to work with. I had initially sent her inspiration images based on the look I was going for and she took that and just played with it, making the make-up fun and vibrant and eye-catching while still flattering to the girls. I also had to do some running around between the sessions (I was in the AYIC Competition still) and Gabby was cool with it. I didn’t need to be there every step of the way and better yet, I could trust her to finish the job without needing me to direct her every step. Gabby was a true pro to work with, and I can’t wait to work with her again.
