I have worked with Darla on many occasions. She is, after all, my sister-in-law. And through her I have met and had sessions with her cousin Claire and her cousin Stacey.
I’m not sure whose idea it was but they all decided to do a Cousins Session. There is this group of them that grew up together, running around on the rez, eating bannock and fighting each other (Tahera is still upset about this) but always backing each other when it came to outsiders. They have seen each other have babies, get married, break up with many, many ex’s and go to school.
Their stories are beyond words, often just taking a knowing look to get them all laughing and slapping each other on the shoulders. Thier history is ties up in memories that go beyond high school or college, back to playground fights and sleepovers. They have gone from playing barbies to hanging out at Legends (ha!). They have grown and changed and accepted and moved fearlessly forward in their lives.

The session came just in time for Tahera’s birthday, and they all worked the camera to make the most of this time.
