Trudy and Jordan // Wedding

When Trudy told me she and Jordan were engaged, I was so damn happy for them. Jordan can drive her crazy then make her laugh like no one else. They’re such an easy-going and fun couple, always out for adventure or a good story. And when she told me she wanted me as a bridesmaid, and not a photographer, I very graciously pouted. I accepted her decision, as she is my best friend, my cousin, my sister. But, like, I pouted. I couldn’t imagine someone else capturing their story.

“Jordan knew you would be mad,” she said, laughing at me. I grinned; he wasn’t wrong.

“Whatever you want, Trudy, it’s your day. I’ll be your bridesmaid, of course. But tell me… just who is gonna be the photographer?”

And off we went, talking weddings and planning and all the little things that make up the big day. I thought I did a pretty good job of hiding my pouting after that, but apparently not. Trudy called me up a few months later and was all, “Fine! If you can do both, do both. But you have to stand as a bridesmaid!”

I was giddy. Right away I contacted my cousin Bree of BreKateri Photography and wooed her into a weekend roadie with me, promising her stories and laughter. And I got a dress. And I watched all of Trudy’s stories and snapchats and pictures and messages as we moved slowly, slowly, to the big day.

Finally, on a warm but windy day at Elk Ridge Resort in July, Trudy said I do with Jordan, amongst their friends and families, under the sun, by the lake, surrounded by the forest, a place they both feel at home. In between the hilarious speeches, the echoing laughter of Indigenous people and friends gathering, and the tender moments of silence and remembering in between, Trudy and Jordan did what they have always done – held hands, danced, and teased each other all night long.

Congrats, sister. Love you both.
