I don’t remember how or when I heard of Leonard Sumner, but once I heard his song Northern Lights off his debut album Rez Poetry, I was imagining two-stepping across northern dance floors, arms around some boy who spoke Cree too fast for me to understand. Basically, his music inspired me, made me remember my better-off-forgotten youth, and made me grin. So when he asked for some headshots while he was in town, I was slightly intimidated – because he a stoic, stoic man – and slightly devious – how long before I could get him to blush or smile.
It took about 25 minutes for him to start laughing at my very funny jokes.
