This September, I started a series I am tentatively titling Urban Indigenous Women – focusing on four women in the city during the four seasons. Trisha Tupper, of Meadow Lake/ERFN, was my first model, and we had a lot of fun with her. The challenge was to use the natural light in the area – we were along Broadway – as well as shooting a more editorial feel with the images. I wanted to showcase some sense of isolation, even within a urban dwelling of thousands of people, and how one can be so similar yet so visibly different from everyone around them.
This session taught me a lot, and I’m currently planning out the Spring and Summer versions. Stay tuned.
