Laya Rose, birth day // family

“Can you come by? Bring your camera.”

My brother Trent had texted me by ten on the morning of January 5th, and I was at the hospital by 11. My newest family member was being born, and I wanted to capture some images for them. I knew how the moments passed by so quickly those first few days, those first few minutes after your world changes. I wanted to capture them for Trent and Shey, and I was so glad they trusted me to do this for them.

After a quick labour, Laya Rose joined us. She came to this world small and fierce, loved and blessed. A girl born to two big sisters and a mom and dad who were so anxious to meet her.

I can’t even pretend to be neutral about this moment. Our smiles got bigger. Our hearts, stronger. Our lives, richer.
