ERFN Elders, Summer 2013 // Events

I was asked to document some of our northern elders from English River First Nation in the summer of 2013. I made two trips up North to photograph a few groups and events featuring our Dene Elders, and I presented a book of portraits to the ERFN First Nation Band as well as to Des Nedhe Development, who had sponsored the project.

I’m so thankful that I was honoured with the task of collecting these images, as we come from a group of strong, funny and intelligent people, who all gave their time to be photographed and shared some of their stories with me. It was a good feeling to go back to my home community and to listen Dene being spoke, to see the familiar faces, and to hear the laughter through the trees as they teased each other in front of the camera.
