It’s been a minute since I’ve done a Year In Review. Like literal years. Things have been busy though, things have been intense. I’m in my last semester of my PhD (FINALLY) and I now have the mental space to blog about the work I did last year. I took a huge step back over the last few years by cutting down on family and grad sessions and really starting to up my community/commercial work – working with places like SIIT, Health Canada, Creative Fire, numbers First Nations for event coverage, snapping conferences and gatherings – just really making sure that I stayed true to myself by providing uplifting and authentic representation for our people.
It’s been amazing, no lie.
Taking it slow really meant I got to focus on my academics, yes, but also on how I really wanted to spend my time with my clients/kin. I got to relax a bit more after sessions with them. I got to really make our time together a priority. I got to gossip and visit, in a really good way.
I also got the chance to immerse myself in the arts. Learning beadwork over the last few years, and taking on bigger projects – which I can’t post about yet, lol. But really working towards a collaboration of ideas when working with other artists, and learning that it’s okay to also take the time to create sessions of the art I want to shoot. I’m so excited to finish these projects.
This is a small sample of what I’ve been doing for the last year. I’m looking forward to moving back into minds as a community photographer, and I’m aiming towards more joy, more laugh lines, and more friendships in 2025.

End Note:
Thanks for creeping on all that. I hope to see more of ya’ll in 2025.
